Dexter's Brain

Had been having this emptiness  in my head for last few day….

tried thinking a lot…. could not generate any… no reasoning took place… no conclusions…  it was almost like nothing..

Did you ever had a feeling like this.. cannot think… cannot reason… cannot …. almost anything…

Brain (empty)

Brain (empty)

I also tried to think what was happening to me… but again could not reason… could not think… could not come to any conclusions!

until I found this…My lost brain… :D

Now the emptiness is gone….  now I remember why I had kept it out…  Few people who know what I had did in last few days…. will understand why I hat to keep my brains out  ;)

Well in any case as you noticed… there is nothing in there…and hence

Ratchet Screw Driver

December 18, 2008 By: Dexter Category: tools

Had visited the Auto Expo few days ago, well could not see much of Auto Mobiles, but the expo more over looked like a auto spares/parts expo.

The only interesting stuff to look at was one of the stall having some nice tools. And could not resist myself from buying one of this interesting (space-ship type) screw-driver.

Its got a interesting stubby hold and also have a ratchet mechanism.

The multiple bits/blades (4 phillips (star) heads and 3 regular heads) coolly reside into the handle itself.

Changing the bits is very easy, as the shank is magnetic and the bits can be removed and place without any efforts.

The screw-driver also had a pivot head, allowing you to turn it in 180o. This is sometimes useful where it is difficult the put the screwdriver straight. You will end up in lots of situations while removing and adding computer drive and other stuff to your system.

The only problem with this type of stuff is the when screws are inside deep cavities as its shank is quite thick. Only useful in places where there is enough room. ;)

Kind of tool, a must have, if you have a lots of screw’s to tighten.

FOSS CD/DVD Label

FOSS CD/DVD Label

FOSS CD/DVD Label

Few days back did a CD/DVD label for PLUG which could be use for any FOSS distro/content. Of course used GIMP for it.

Downloaded this CD-Label script Fu, which give you a basic blank CD label for doing your art work on it.

Added few icons of apps, desktops, distros etc to the label. Kept the print size to 4.5 inches as the outer diameter and inner diameter to 1.5 inches.

Sudhanwa gave an interesting idea to use up the inner circle. So we put the PLUG logo inside that label. Now with every CD/DVD label, we get one PLUG sticker free, or should I say we salvaged the inner sticker!

Download the GIMP xcf file here if you want to use the basic design.

Till then happy GIMP(ing) ;) .

Alien Warp Wallpaper Using GIMP

December 14, 2008 By: Dexter Category: GIMP, Tutorial

Had been using GIMP for some time now, so just thought to put some small tutorial stuff here.

It’s also going to help me later to do the same again. (took me loads of time to identify the gradient which i had use for this work)

I call this the Alien Warp Wallpaper.

To do this start GIMP

  • Start with a new file or should is say canvas of the required screen resolution, I used 1024×768 and white background
  • From the menu (canvas window) select: Filters >> Render >> Lava
  • In the Lava dialogue box uncheck Separate Layer
  • Click on the Gradient Box and select Tropical Colors
  • Click ok to apply the Lava effect to the canvas. You should get a similar to Image 1.
  • I would like to call this as the Alien Space

Alien Space Pattern generated using Lava Filter

  • Next from the menu select: Filters >> Render >> Line Nova and click ok. (I have used default settings. Try different combination of values to get different warp radius and speed).
  • Your Alien Warp Wallpaper is ready! :)
